Malta Gaming Authority (MGA)

The Malta Gaming Authority was established in 2001 to regulate all types of gaming industry. The MGA has become a major hub for e-gaming licenses since 2004 with strong gambling regulations, and was the first EU member state to regulate remote gambling.

The following are the responsibilities of an MGA license:

• Protect minors and vulnerable populations while promoting responsible gambling in a safe environment.
• Licensing and regulation of gaming operators.
• Provide guidance and cooperation at all stages of the application process.
• Protect player funds and ensure that all deposits and withdrawals are safe and executable.
• Ensure the randomness of all games of chance results through audits and independent testing institutes, thus ensuring the integrity of the game and betting equipment.
• Monitor the activities of licensed operators to ensure they are compliant.
• Acting for players in investigating complaints about licensed operators in order to protect players’ rights.
• Monitor activity to ensure gambling is protected from criminal activity.
